About Barnsley RLA

Founded in 1996 by a small group of Landlords who wished to improve their management skills.

Barnsley RLA was established to ensure all members keep abreast of new legislation in the rapidly changing private rented sector.

Through regular meetings and presentations the Association has grown considerably since that time, helping and encouraging its members to continue their professional development, improve the quality of their properties, keep up to date with new and changing legislation, and improve their management skills.

Members are also advised regarding the appropriate standards required in their properties for insulation, safety, security and other aspects. Through these benefits, members are enabled to carry on their rental businesses in a fair, responsible and professional manner.

The Association is comprised of local landlords who wish to improve their property management skills and share these skills for the mutual benefit of all members. Regardless of whether a member has only one property which is managed on a part-time basis, or a much larger professional portfolio, all members are equally welcome and valued.

BRLA functions entirely on a voluntary basis and is managed by a dedicated and experienced group of volunteer members formed as a Committee. The Committee and its Officers are subject to re-election each year and are charged with conducting the Association's affairs in a proper and professional manner.

Strong and enduring relationships have been developed over the years with Barnsley Council, the Housing Benefit Department, The Rent Service, and the Police and Fire Services.

Meetings are held each month at Shaw Lane Sports Centre, Barnsley. Relevant topics are discussed, and often a guest speaker is invited to give a presentation on a subject of interest. There is also the opportunity to discuss tenant and management issues with experienced landlords at this time.

Membership of BRLA is open to private landlords owning and managing their own properties. Please note that managing agents and letting agents have their own professional associations and are not admitted as members of BRLA.

BRLA is an affiliated member of the National Landlords Association. The NLA is a national Association which protects and promotes the interests of landlords, and also provides information and advice on the latest issues affecting the sector.
